Cory Richards, MS

Cory Richards

Cory Richards is a graduate of the marriage and family therapy graduate program at Kansas State University. Ms. Richards conducts general family therapy for individuals, couples, and families with an emphasis on trust issues, adolescent issues, parenting, depression and anxiety.

Ms. Richards uses an integrative model of theory that she believes becomes cohesive through her personality and experiences. The core theories she uses in therapy are Bowen Theory, Cognitive-behavioral Theory (CBT), and Experiential Theory. She also uses many principles from John Gottman to inform her practice.

Ms. Richards describes herself as a good listener, caring, transparent, flexible, collaborative, a question asker, empathic, and confident. She believes that her characteristics and experience also contribute to what are termed “common factors" (Sprenkle and Blow, 2004): engaged and motivated clients, a strong therapeutic alliance, the therapist’s belief that the treatment is effective, the client’s confidence in the therapist, the therapist’s facilitation of hope and expectancy, the therapist’s ability to relate to the unique world of the client system, and the therapist’s utilization of change mechanisms that address cognition, behavior, and affect.

Ms. Richards says "I believe that being caring, transparent, flexible, collaborative, empathic, and confident; mixed with the education of marriage and family therapy training I received; supply a great deal of ingredients needed to boost common factors in my clinical work."

Ms. Richards resides in Manhattan with her husband and two children.
